SPM PM Assessment Award

SPM Cognitive PM Knowledge Assessment:      Application Deadline - January 31, 2010

The IT & Telecom SIG and SPM Group are happy to announce the sponsorship of a limited number of individual Project Manager personal assessments in 2010 at no charge to our membership. These assessments are valuable tools that objectively and confidentially evaluate your competencies and development areas on the subjects of application of project management and leadership. A series of on line questionnaires lead you through the process of a self evaluation which is then compared against the key skill sets and industry standards. Your personal scores indicate a lot about the way you manage both your projects and your teams. Take this opportunity to learn more about yourself in these areas and use that information to set your professional development goals for the coming year!

The first scholarship will be awarded early in February.

Through a set of over 100 questions, the SPM Cognitive PM Knowledge Assessment is an online tool that tests knowledge and understanding of project management principles, tool and techniques. These questions are based on mainstream best practices and the standards of project management with the primary ones from PMI's PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), as well as general management and business specific questions.

The assessment questions cover the nine technical project management areas in addition to focusing on key leadership attributes.

  • Integration Management
  • Scope Management
  • Time Management
  • Cost Management
  • Quality Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Communications Mangement
  • Risk Management
  • Procurement Management

The general management and business specific categories include:

  • Communications
  • Learning & Knowledge Management
  • Team Building
  • Negotiations
  • Planning, Prioritizing & goal Setting
  • Relationship Management
  • Strategic Thinking
  • Problem Solving & Decision Making
  • Time Management
  • Financial Acumen

Results of the SPM Cognitive PM Knowledge Assessment are analyzed confidentially against SPM Group's Competency Maturity Model PM Profile. This model represents the competencies we believe are required to successfully perform the best practices of the project management profession. The Maturity Model Profile defines the performance requirements for an individual applying current, certified best practices, in project management for the specified years of PM Experience and PM Professionalism the participant indicates on the assessment.

Individual Assessment Report:
The hyperlink to complete the Assessment is sent in an email to the individual. This link is specific to the participant and is hosted on the SPM server.
The results from the questions on the assessment are tabulated in a database then structured into a confidential Individual Assessment Report immediately generated for the participant.
The results are presented in a graphical and narrative report format that documents in detail the score for each proficiency and performance criteria. The report highlights an individual's strengths as well as areas that are in need of increased focus.
